New Year, New Kitchen

We moved into a our Victorian end terrace in April 2016 and began putting our own stamp on it in earnest. We were very lucky that the previous owners had looked after the house really well, leaving it in a lovely condition.

Witch was lucky for us as house moves are expensive and there wasn't a lot left for us to start any major renovations.

Then in November 2017 Tom popped the question in our back garden, surrounded by fireworks! We spent the next 12 month planning and spending all our time and money organising our amazing wedding! It was pretty much all consuming and I loved every minute of it. Infact as the big day got closer one of my biggest fears was what the hell would i do with my time after we were married?

We got married on the 4th November 2017 and spent two amazing months mini-mooning and celebration out first Christmas as Mr and Mrs! But when the January blues hit, wow did it hit hard. I was in desperate need of a project to fill my time outside work and me and Tom came to the agreement that now was a good time to redecorate the house.

My favoriet room in our home has always been the kitchen, its what sold me on the house in the first place (that and the pink door) and the main reason we decided to buy. The previous owners had extended what had been a very modest kitchen into a room double the size with high ceilings, huge skylights and double doors leading  into the garden. It was perfect, but definitely a little shabby and in need of a quick coat of paint to bring it back to life!

I knew I wanted it to be dark green from the very start (we can just go ahead and blame Pintrest for that one) But also beacsue I knew the room could pull it off. I loved the idea of the dark walls contrasting with the cream kitchen units and making what is a very big space feel a little cosier.

We were not without our critics, most people we showed the paint sample too were put off straight away. I must admit I momentarily had my doubts, as I started to see just how much of the lovely light blue walls were turning 'crocodile green'. But we persevered and I am so glad we did! It turned out exactly how I imagined and even better.

The best thing is, the whole room actually ended up costing us very little. We bought two tins of paint from B&Q at £15 each, another one of our favourite Ikea chairs and foot stools, and a side table from Sainsburys for £14! Everything else in the room are pieces we already had and trinkets I've collected over time.

We got really lucky with a few of our finds too. The sideboard is a family heirloom and has been in my family for round about 100 years. It belong to my Great Grandma Lily. Forgotten about in a garage for over 30 years by a relative, it was rescued by my Grandma and give to us to restore back to its former glory.

The ladder is an old roofing ladder that I found by the side of the house when we moved in, I used it as the table plan at our wedding and was determined to find a place for it in the house afterwards.

The glass bottles are Victorian and from locally factories. All of them have Huddersfield printed on them in different places and we picked them up at a weekend market for only £1 each!

There are a  couple of things left to do on this room, including a proper dog bed for Poppy, curtains and a shelf to display my ever growing collection of plates, dishes and crockery. But we are getting there.

The big decision now is which project to tackle next!
